To the Editor,

Last week someone said to us, “So, Deerfield Valley let Roger go?” Most of you who are reading this letter know exactly who Roger is and what this question meant. For anyone who doesn’t know, Roger Maynard worked for Deerfield Valley Supply (aka Deerfield Valley Energy) for about 60 years and he is our uncle.

Although most of his 60 years were not for the new management, we are completely baffled by the lack of any public acknowledgment of such tenure. We have not had a chance to speak with Roger or anyone who was there on his last day, but we’ll be waiting to see when Deerfield Valley Energy will make an effort to show appreciation for something that most of us will never accomplish. It wouldn’t be that difficult, and it is the right thing to do.

Well done Roger!

Sincerely.

Michelle Maynard,

Paul and Eli Crosier

For many years I was a customer of Deerfield Valley Supply. After they were bought out, customer service plummeted. I asked them about a replacement heating system. I never received an answer to the email. so I emailed them and told them to no longer deliver fuel.

I found a family-owned business to install my new heating system. Their response and effort from the first contact has been excellent.

I will miss Roger. He was always so nice and helpful on the phone. Like what Shaw's did to some long term devoted employees, Deerfield Valley Energy, now owned by indifferent strangers far away, did the same thing.

There's more than reason for those "Buy Local" stickers you see.

I have always been very proud of my Dad and know that it was his work ethic that provided me the tools for success in my life. He gave his all through the years to the Grain Store, Deerfield Valley and all other deviations of names for working over 60 years for the same business; different owners and many challenges; but Roger was always there. I think DVE will feel the pain especially when Old Home Week comes and so many stop by to say Hi and he is gone...I hope they realize that old relics are valuable for much more than meets the eye or can be quantified in reports and data tracking. They are the lifeblood of the business; they are what makes people want to come back. Yeah, Dad is old and I pray that he can enjoy retirement now....but he really enjoyed working. I hope that his contributions to Deerfield Valley thru the years are always remembered. I trust that God will allow him to enjoy this next chapter in his life; he has certainly earned it and surely deserves it. He is the best Dad anyone could want! And I know he taught me how to always work with integrity and a strong work ethic! This is their very great loss! Linda Maynard

For those of you who know Roger well, he is a conscientious and honest businessman who always provided help for those in need and believed in giving the best customer service that he could. For those of you who didn't know Roger that well, you are about to get to know him in the way you never thought possible. When the time comes, and it will, when you need to rely on someone who has been somewhere for years and who has always tried to help serve the community, you probably won't get the customer service that you have lived with for most of your lives. Those days are gone. The very sad part of all of this, is that this is happening in every city and small town in every state in our Nation. When is enough, enough? Does anyone know the answer to that question? I do. Maybe you should find out or learn about what is happening to America. God Bless America, especially now during one of it's most difficult times. And, Dad, congratulations on your Retirement. You have worked so hard all your life, it's time to go fishing now and enjoy life. Thank you, Michelle, for filling in for me when I didn't even know what had taken place. Shame on Deerfield Valley Energy for no community acknowledgement.

Sincerely,

Jacquelyn Maynard
