I just read the letter to the editor by a disgruntled person who had received a citation for failing to have a personal floatation device in his possession while kayaking on Lake Raponda. Too bad. The next time he goes out with his kayak, I bet that he will have a PFD with him, preferable he will be wearing it.
When I served as game warden in this area for some 32 years, I was involved in the recovery of several drowning victims, a drowned body is not a pleasant sight to view.
In every instance, the victim did not have a PFD, and in every instance, the death would have been prevented if the victim had possessed one.
Incidentally, a PFD tucked under the seat of the boat is of little value in the event of the craft being capsized.
