NEWFANE- Lynn “Butch” Harwood Kent died peacefully July 7, at Grace Cottage Hospital. He was born October 11, 1940, at Rockingham Hospital, son of Raymond Moulton Kent and Mercedes Tarbell Kent. He was raised in Newfane, attended Newfane schools and graduated from Leland and Gray Seminary class of 1959. On October 7, 1961 in Bernardston, MA, he married Jane Pratt Kent who survives. They lived most of their married years in Newfane.

Mr. Kent worked in construction, was a welder, and drove race horses at New Hampshire and New York tracks. He was an auctioneer and antique dealer, law enforcement officer as a deputy sheriff, for seven years was the constable for the Town of Newfane, and delinquent tax collector for the town of Newfane. Mr. Kent was a police officer for the town of Wilmington, head of security and guest services for Stratton Mountain, a truck driver, and many other things.

Of Mr. Kent’s pastimes he was a Boston Celtics and Red Sox fan. He spent his early years hunting, fishing, hiking the Long Trail, and camping. He enjoyed his friends, neighbors, and his kids.

Besides his loving wife, he leaves his extended family, Angela, Rich, Lexie, and Karlie Sanborn, sisters-in-law Ellie Greenia. of Hinsdale, NH, Dottie Morgan, of Silver Springs, FL; cousins Dee Worthen, Ken O’Connor, and Sue Nadeau; nieces and nephews; greatnieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, aunts Lillian Coane and Phyllis O’Connor, uncle Donald Kent, foster son Daric Palmer. nephew David Vlach, godchildren Jay and Danielle Whitman, good friends Albert Litchfield Jr., and Richard Hall, and brother-in-law George Pratt.

A memorial service in celebration of Mr. Kent’s life will be conducted on Sunday, August 1, at 2 pm at the NewBrook Fire Department in Newfane.
