Early in November 2009 I was diagnosed with a devastating and quickly progressing neurological disease. By the beginning of January, I was confined to a wheelchair and traveling to Mass. General every month for treatment. Recently, I’ve begun to show some small improvements, and the doctors are encouraged that I will recover to some degree.
Needless to say, these past six months have been extremely stressful both physically and emotionally, for both Dennis and myself.
For years we’ve been reading letters in The Deerfield Valley News written by community members thanking friends and neighbors for their outpouring of support in times of need. Now we know firsthand just how fortunate we are to live in such a caring and responsive community. So many thoughtful and generous people - way too many to name individually - have come forward with dinners, friendly visits, and offers of support and concern.
Suffice it to say, Dennis and I are both extremely grateful and humbled by the tremendous encouragement we’ve received. We do live in an incredible community of caring people, and for this we are so very thankful.
