Matt Dunne stands apart.
I’m 85 years old and I’ve lived in Vermont for 40 years. I met Matt Dunne at a luncheon and liked what he said. Since then I’ve learned he would make a governor with a huge scope. It starts with his farm experience growing up in Hartland with a father who co-founded the Vermont Land Trust and taught him our need to preserve our farms and land. After college, Matt was elected to the Vermont Legislature at age 22. He was there seven years supporting economic development, civil and women’s rights, environmental sustainability (today Bill McKibben supports him) gay rights, transportation (where are the trains?), veteran issues (they need our help more than ever), small business needs, and more.
Then President Clinton appointed Matt to head the nonprofit Americor/Vista program in DC, overseeing 6,000 paid activists around the country. After that Windsor sent him to our Senate for four years where he created the Economic Development Committee which included revitalizing downtowns, helping and drawing new business, and encouraging the use of renewable energy.
The list goes on and it became obvious to me that Matt has unstoppable passion for making life in all areas better for Vermonters. He’s stocked foods shelves for SEVCA, cut trails, cleaned parks, marched down Main street for a cause. Now he is taking time off from being manager of community affairs for Google, a job which enhances his circle of expertise. Vermont has a worldly profile.
Our senators and representative are recognized nationally. We need a governor who fits with this large-picture reputation. Matt has a fine, easy-to-use web site (mattdunne.com). You’ll see Matt is our best chance to win.
