WILMINGTON- The Twin Valley track and field team is the strongest it’s ever been. In the past, there would be one or two Twin Valley students who would compete for the school and practice with the Brattleboro Union High School track and field team. This year, the number of track and field athletes skyrocketed and they have all shown strong abilities to lead the team to division III and division IV and individual state titles.

“For the last couple of years, we’ve had three charter members, Brittney Roemmelt, Jared Cipriano, and Lewis Snow. This year we have 11 and they’re all outstanding,” said Twin Valley athletic director Buddy Hayford.

Joining Roemmelt on the Twin Valley girls’ track and field team are Svenja Schuirmann, Alex Kennedy, Desiree Mack, and Devon Spirka. Joining Cipriano and Snow are Scotty Hayford, Ryan Bartlett, Dylan Spiegel, and Ahmed El-Nabty.

The Wildcats competed in three track meets this season and performed well in all of them. Their first meet of the season was April 7 at Green Mountain. On the boys’ team, Spiegel placed third in the 100- and 200-meters and Snow placed fourth in the 100- and 200-meters.

On the girls’ team, Spirka placed fourth in the 100- and 200-meters and the long jump; Kennedy placed fourth in the 400-meter; and Roemmelt placed third in the 100-meter hurdles.

The Wildcats competed at Fall Mountain, NH on April 9 and fared well. On the boys’ side, Spiegel placed third in the shot-put, second in the 100-yard run, and fourth in the 200-yard run; Snow placed third in the 100-yard run and second in the 200-yard run; Cipriano placed second in the 800-yard run; El-Nabty placed 11th in the 1,600-yard run; and Hayford placed first in the high jump and second in the long jump. The 4 x 100 relay team of Spiegel, Snow, Cipriano, and Hayford placed first but was disqualified after a poor handoff.

On the girls’ team, Kennedy finished fourth in the 400-yard run and the 1,600-yard run; Schuirmann finished third in the 300-yard hurdles; and Spirka finished second in the long jump.

The Wildcats competed at Bellows Falls on April 15 and placed second in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.
