Wilmington- Gertrude M. Savoy Howard, 77, a resident of Wilmington, died peacefully Wednesday March 31, at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Howard was born in Danbury, CT, on January 18, 1933, she was the daughter of the late James and Clara (Smith) Savoy. She was married in Millbrook, NY, on November 5, 1950 to Joseph B. Howard. They had lived in Red Hook, NY for many years, where she worked as a cook at the Cozy Corner Restaurant for over 30 years. They relocated to Vermont eight years ago.

Throughout her life she enjoyed cooking, music, and dancing, and she often assisted her husband in re-finishing furniture. The main focus of her life was her home and family, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Mrs. Howard leaves her husband of 59 years, Joseph B. Howard Sr., of Canaan, CT; daughters, Phyllis McLeroy and husband Michael, of Wilmington, Darla Byrd and husband George, of Canaan, CT; and Frances Hawver and husband Perry, of West Rutland; son Joseph B. Howard Jr. and wife Sue, of Red Hook, NY; brothers, Sam Savoy, of Kent, CT, and Frank Savoy, of Dover Plains, NY; sisters, Judy Savoy and Ethel Hoose, both of Wassaic, NY; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were held at the Jacksonville Community Church on Saturday April 3, with Reverend Douglas LaPlante officiating. Private burial took place in the Jacksonville Village Cemetery.
