Many Vermonters may have no idea who Dan Freilich is, or why he is challenging an incumbent like Patrick Lahey for the Senate seat. Dan is an ordinary, hard-working father who wants to surgically reattach the spine into the Democratic Party. Dan has served his country with honor and distinction, becoming a captain in the U.S. Navy in only 12 years. Dan attended medical school, finished his residency at UVM, and even had a private practice all while watching Vermont politicians promise things that, once elected, they rarely fought for. Dan knows how to fight and believes in simple, brutal honesty.
Dan believes we should have universal “single-payer” health care, just as those in Congress do, and until all of America has the same coverage that their representatives do, elected officials in the Capitol should give their exclusive coverage up.
Dan will fight for the creation of a “green valley” in Vermont which will put Vermonters back to work and set us up as the leader in the green energy revolution.
Dan will propose and fight for bold initiatives like his “Community Service for College” program that offers two free years of college to any citizen who completes 18 months of service to their country or community.
Many have raised the comparison of David vs. Goliath when learning about his Senate run against the 30-plus-year incumbent Patrick Lahey. To this Dan simply smiles, that’s exactly why he is running. Dan respects the lifetime of service Mr. Lahey has contributed but believes it is time that some new vigor, exuberance, and a little fight are put back in to Vermont’s politics. Dan is a working class hero, who knows the hardships of a raising a family in today’s economy. Dan knows the peril the young face due to a lack of jobs and health care, and the burden it puts on their parents or grandparents when they move back in and look for support.
Dan wants to move the conversation from beltway politics about filibusters and cloture votes to common sense solutions, and real Vermonter issues. And it’s because of Dan’s everyday approach, and willingness to fight for common sense solutions that urged me to join Dan’s campaign and lend my voice to his efforts.
Dan wants to remain a candidate for and by the people of his home state and that is why he has opened a line for Vermonters to call and talk directly to him about issues affecting you.
