I’m writing to encourage everyone in Wilmington to vote “no” on article 2. Personally, I did not like the bank park pergola at all when it first went up. I didn’t think it fit in the historic district, and I thought the height was wrong for the surrounding buildings. As the stonework went in, the flowers and trees went in, the pergola turned gray, the entire park looked better all the time. Now I think that the park as a whole looks great.
A lot of people have spent a lot of volunteer time to make the park a beautiful and welcoming focal point in our village. I cannot imagine taking the pergola down now, the park would look incomplete.
There are enough important things for us all to spend our time and energy on: our taxes, our schools, making sure our neighbors have heat. Let’s leave the pergola and discuss more important issues.
