bennington- Florence Pool Boyd Newton, 101, a resident of Blackberry Lane and formerly of Wilmington, died peacefully Wednesday February 3, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Newton was born in Brant Rock, MA, on March 23, 1908, the daughter of William A. Pool Sr. and Grace Witham Saunders, and attended schools in Brant Rock, and Marlboro. She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1951 while working there as the school secretary. She married Homer A. Boyd on January 18, 1925

In 1956 she and her husband moved to Schenectady, NY, after the death of her daughter Marion, to care for Marion’s children. They moved to Pittsfield, MA, with her daughter’s family when her son-in-law was relocated. Mr. Boyd died in 1963. She then married George Newton in December 1968, in Pittsfield. Mrs. Newton worked as Wilmington Assistant Town Clerk and at General Electric in Pittsfield, retiring in 1970. She moved from Pittsfield and Dalton, MA to Wilmington in 1975.

Mrs. Newton was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Mayflower Chapter #19. She was a very talented artist, especially in oil paintings and enjoyed knitting crocheting, traveling, especially to Florida and Arizona, and was a New York Yankees baseball fan.

Mrs. Newton is survived by her daughter Edith Whittaker of Florida, 12 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sons, Neil H. Boyd and Lee Boyd; her daughter, Marion LaPenna; her grandsons, Richard Tracy and Brett Boyd; her brothers, Calvin Pool and William Pool Jr.; and her sisters, Edna Carruthers, Marion Akley, and Bessie Carlson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Newton will be held at the Wilmington Congregational Church and will be announced later in the spring.
