Gerald E. Bowen, Sr.
West Palm Beach, FL- Gerald Evan Bowen Sr., 89, a resident of Wayman Circle and formerly of Readsboro, VT, died peacefully Wednesday, January 13, at his home.
Mr. Bowen was born in Readsboro on February 13, 1920, the son of Alfred Monroe and Hazel Diana (Prew) Bowen and attended local schools. Mr. Bowen worked as a mechanic in the paper production business for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII and a former member of the Readsboro Baptist Church. Mr. Bowen was a member of American Legion Post 29 in Readsboro, where he also served as Legion Chaplain for 30 years. Mr. Bowen enjoyed singing, playing guitar, and square dance calling.
Mr. Bowen is survived by his son David Bowen of Albany, NY, his daughter Wanda Deme and her husband Sandor of West Palm Beach, FL, his sister Netha Gray of Palmer, MA, five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Alyce Grace Berard, on March 16, 2004, his son Gerald E. Bowen Jr., on April 30, 2000, and his brother Halton Bowen.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Bowen will be held in the family lot in Readsboro Village Cemetery and will be announced in the spring. There are no visiting hours.
