To the Editor:

The sudden and unexpected passing of Rep. Rick Hube is a huge loss for the region, and all of Vermont. Rick was more than a great legislator; he was a problem solver, a statesman, and above all, a great friend to many.

Rick will forever be remembered for his dedication to his district. He was passionate about serving his constituents. The solution to a problem large or small was never out of reach for him, in large measure due to the relationships he had forged with people across the state, both in the political and nonpolitical world. His quick wit and good humor would bring levity to the most challenging of situations, and helped bring people together for the common good.

Reform of Act 60 and the statewide property tax was always at the top of his mind, but Rick also spent a considerable amount of time developing new ideas for economic development and energy policy. He had what seemed to be a limitless supply of energy and a never-ending stream of innovative ideas, but he always sought out differing points of view to balance his own perspective. While he had the capacity to develop great ideas, he was never afraid to get behind another approach if he thought it was better. He was always looking out for the interests of his district and for Vermont.

Vermont has lost a wonderful person and a great public servant.
