Mr. Dassatti was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Army. Following his military service, he lived in Rockport, MA, working with the Cape Ann Tool Company for two years. He moved to Holyoke, MA, and worked at Moore Drop Forge Company. He returned to Readsboro in 1944 and worked at Deerfield Glassine and later Deerfield Specialty until his retirement in 1982.
Long active in community service, he was elected to the Readsboro Board of Trustees in 1952 and served until 1984. He was a member of the board of selectmen from 1957 to 1967. In 1971, he was appointed to the position of Cemetery Sexton. In 1974, he helped establish the Readsboro Cemetery Commission, on which he served.
Mr. Dassatti was a member of the Walter Case Post #29 of the American Legion. In 1994, he was presented thc Lions Club Melvin Jones Fellows Award for dedicated humanitarian service, He was a communicant of St. Joachim’s Church.
Survivors include his wife, the former Elide “Alice” Comai, whom he married on May 17, 1947 in St. Joachim’s Church; one son, James A Dassatti and his fiancé, Elizabeth Murphy, of Jacksonville; one grandson, Stephen J. Dassatti and his wife Jennifer, of Great Falls, MT; and many nieces and nephews.
One sister and three brothers are deceased: Caroline Gottardi and Archie, Attilio, and Gelindo Dassatti.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, December 29, at St. Joachim’s Church in Readsboro. Burial will be in the spring in Village Cemetery.
