Mayor will answer questions and sign copies of his latest work, “The Price of Malice,” in which Lieutenant Joe Gunther finds himself torn between his conscience and his heart as he is swept up in both a murder investigation and a personal search for the truth. Copies of Mayor’s earlier books will be available for sale and signing as well.
Described recently in the New York Times Book Review as “the best thing going in regional crime writing,” Mayor’s series of Vermont-based police procedurals has intrigued readers and impressed critics for decades. Mayor’s acclaimed books, featuring Gunther, are a standard Christmas gift for many local readers. Whereas many writers base their books on only interviews and scholarly research, Mayor’s novels are based on actual experience in the field. The result adds a depth, detail, and veracity to his characters and their tribulations that has led the New York Times to call him “the boss man on procedures.”
Along with his career as a novelist, Mayor is a death investigator for Vermont’s Chief Medical Examiner, a deputy sheriff for Windham County, and an investigator for the Windham County State’s Attorney’s office. He also has 25 years experience as a volunteer firefighter/EMT. In addition, he is the publisher of his own backlist, a travel writer for AAA, and travels the Northeast giving speeches and conducting workshops. Mayor lives in Newfane.
