WATERBURY – Let the voting begin. Vermonters can vote online for their favorite forestry photos in the Forestry Centennial photo contest, sponsored by the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation.

Visit www.vtforest.com and help choose the winners of the Vermonters Choice Award.

One of these photos will be the grand prize winner of Forestry Centennial’s Vermonters Choice Award. But state forestry officials need help deciding who that will be by voting. Remember the contest theme is to showcase the important relationship between Vermonters and their forests.

The winners will be announced December 1. The grand prize winner will receive a Forestry Centennial Celebration wooden log truck and a one-year season’s pass to Vermont state parks. Runners up will receive a one-year season’s pass to Vermont State Parks.

It’s simple to vote. Click a photo for a larger version of the image. To vote, click the check mark above a selection and submit the vote. Only one vote per person.

Voting will end on November 25.

In 1909, the state Board of Agriculture appointed Vermont’s first state forester and acquired the first state forest, the 642-acre L.R. Jones State Forest in Plainfield. One hundred years later, the state now oversees 300,000-plus acres of state forest in 80 towns throughout Vermont. In addition, more than 1 million acres of private forest is enrolled in the state’s Use Value Appraisal, or “current use,” program and is being actively managed to high state standards.
