Wilmington– Vermont Public Radio commentator and host Willem Lange will be at Bartleby’s Books on Saturday, November 21, at 11am, the first event in the store’s new location at 17 West Main Street. Lange will be promoting the publication of his much-loved Vermont Christmas story, “Favor Johnson.” Many Vermonters already know the tale of Favor Johnson, his dog Hercules, Doctor Jennings, and the mysterious house-to-house delivery of homemade fruitcakes on Christmas Eve. Lange has been reading it on VPR every holiday season for 25 years. With his signature style, Lange will tell his classic story once again and sign copies of the book on a winter’s afternoon at Bartlebys.
The story of Favor Johnson is a heartwarming tale of neighborliness and generosity in a small Vermont town. Readers will find much that is familiar, from the stoicism New Englanders are so famous for, to the quiet kindness that lurks underneath. Illustrated with the spare watercolors of Vermont artist Bert Dodson, the book captures the spirit of the holidays in the Green Mountains.
Lange is a short-story writer, commentator, and host on Vermont Public Radio and New Hampshire Public Television. He also writes the weekly column “A Yankee Notebook,” which appears in several New England newspapers. He is the author of several other books including “Tales from the Edge of the Woods” and “Okay, Let’s Try It Again.” He lives with his wife in East Montpelier.
Bartleby’s Books is located at 17 West Main Street in downtown Wilmington. Call (802) 464-5425 or e-mail bartbook@sover.net for more information.
