The upcoming concert provides an ideal opportunity to showcase the Music School’s new brass faculty members: Jean Jeffries, French horn, and Dave Sporny, trombone, who join Dan Farina, trumpet, for Francis Poulenc’s “Sonata for Brass Trio.”
Soprano Junko Watanabe joins Alex Ogle, flute, Kathy Andrew, violin, Sabine Rhyne, cello; and Susan Dedell, piano, for the performance of three arias by J.S. Bach.
Mozart’s “Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, K. 493” will be performed by Bruce Griffin, piano; Lisa Ferrigno, violin; Kathy Andrew, viola; and David Tasgal, cello.
As the Faculty Chamber Concert is dedicated to BMC founder Blanche Moyse in celebration of her 100th birthday, two of the pieces to be presented were written by composers well known to Moyse.
Swiss-born composer Frank Martin’s beautiful “Quatre Sonnets à Cassandre” (1921) is performed by Margery McCrum, mezzo-soprano; Alex Ogle, flute; Kathy Andrew, viola, and Sabine Rhyne, cello.
Bohuslav Martinu’s “Trio for Flute, Violin and Piano,” was composed for the Moyse Trio (comprising Marcel Moyse, flute; Blanche Moyse, violin; and Louis Moyse, iano) and dedicated to Blanche Moyse. The performers for this concert, Alex Ogle, flute, Kathy Andrew, violin, and Susan Dedell, piano, were coached on this piece by Moyse some 15 years ago.
All proceeds from this concert will benefit the Music School Scholarship Fund. Over $25,000 in student scholarships will be made available this year, and are made possible by fundraising events such as the Faculty Chamber Concert and through the generous support of individuals, foundations, and businesses in our community.
The Faculty Chamber Concert will be held Saturday, November 14, at 7:30 pm, at Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main Street. Tickets are available at the BMC or at the door: general admission $15, and free to BMC students under 22.
