The DVCC held its first “Best Dam Walk in Vermont” on Sunday, and we are very happy with the results. The weather was great, we had a lot of help from very talented people, lots of folks showed up to walk, and everybody seemed to have a good time. More than 90 walkers came out, ranging in age from one 3-month-old to several people in their mid-eighties, and we took in over $7,770.
We learned a lot, and will make a few changes next year, but the response was universally positive and we are grateful to everyone who took part.
We want to thank the businesses who helped us out: Carl Boyd and Carolyn Palmer, C&S and the Cup and Saucer, the Cabot Cheese Company, Deerfield Valley Energy, Dewitt Beverage, Pine Hill Orchards, the Red Mill, Shearer Hill Farm, Twice Blessed, Wheeler Farm, and Wilcox Ice Cream for their generous donations.
Mount Snow, The Deerfield Valley News, and the Celebrate the Valley committee helped to publicize our walk.
Dave Mack, Troy and Tiffany Felisko, Dave Kuhnert, and four members of the Mount Snow Ski Patarol pitched in to ensure that there would be help and transportation in case anyone was injured.
Three members of the Rotary Club helped us with parking and managing the grill, and a number of other friends worked with us to help make things run smoothly. Finally we owe a debt of gratitude to Matt Cole from TransCanada for providing access to their property and working with us from the very beginning.
With a little luck and a lot of work, we hope to be able to turn this into an annual event that will bring more families to the valley, and from the valley, to enjoy our walking trails.
Thank you all, and we will see you next year on September 12.
