“Antigone” for two plays at Marlboro College

MARLBORO- The Strong Coffee Stage Company will premiere its two-person retelling of the Sophocles tragedy, “Antigone,” at Marlboro College’s Whittemore Theater at 7 pm on Saturday, September 5.

“Antigone” is one of Sophocles’ Theban plays, which include “Oedipus the King” and “Oedipus at Colonus.” In the play, Antigone defies the edict of Thebes’ ruler, Creon, by burying her brother who was slain in battle. Creon sentences her to be buried alive, only to be warned by the blind prophet, Tiresias, that the gods will punish him for his actions.

General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 18 and under. Reservations can be made in advance by calling the Marlboro College event information line at (802) 451-7151.

Bronwyn Sims is an accomplished actor, acrobat, and teacher with numerous television, film, and theater credits, including the Emmy Award-winning first season of “The Sopranos” and “Pagliacci” with the New York City Opera at Lincoln Center. She is a lecturer in acting at Yale School of Drama and also teaches aerial and acrobatics at the New England Center for Circus Arts in Brattleboro. Sims has also taught at various other universities and schools in New York City and New England.

Patrick Donnelly is a professional actor, clown, and teacher. He has performed at the 2007 and 2008 New York City Clown Theater festivals, the Downtown Clown Revue, LaMama ETC, and several other New York venues, and has toured the United States with the circus/vaudeville company Nimble Arts. A professional actor for over 20 years, with roles in “The Ciderhouse Rules,” “The Love Letter,” and numerous commercials and stage productions, he also taught physical comedy and clown at Colorado College; The Skybox, NYC; Canopy Studios, Athens, GA; and Show Studio, East Holyoke, MA.
