To the Editor:

Voters in Windham-Bennington should not be misled by the recent mailer they received from John Moran’s opponent for state representative. It features the “legislative report card” compiled by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, an organization that lobbies the legislature in favor of the interests of its membership. John Moran has consistently voted in the best interests of his district and the people of Vermont, supporting improved telecommunications, affordable housing, closing tax loopholes, protection of the state property tax fund from noneducational use, and holding Entergy responsible for the cost of decommissioning Vermont Yankee. These hardly look like votes against small business.

John has opposed Act 60 and Act 68. Phil Bartlett voted for Act 68. John has urged repealing the state property tax and getting rid of the common level of appraisal. It is absolutely untrue that his votes “are dragging our economy down” or “are costing us jobs.” Phil needs to explain how.

Candidates’ forums in Wardsboro, Stamford, Dover, and Readsboro will give voters a chance to hear both candidates present their positions and answer questions. Residents are urged to attend and of course, to get to the polls on November 4.
