To the Editor:

As a 40-year homeowner in Wilmington, I’ve had a number of opportunities to sit in the lovely pergola that replaced the burned-out area and I’m delighted that the pergola is still there. The flowers and the stone benches invite visitors to watch the river and to people-watch, too.

I’d hate to see the pergola removed. I also note that there’s ample room for wheelchairs and strollers in the area.

Please don’t touch the pergola! It’s a great addition to Wilmington’s center.

The areas that Mona speaks favorably i.e. the limited seating, the river view and the stonework all have nothing to do with the Fred Flintstone/Barney Rubble pergola. And as for compliance with ADA requirements - fact is neither the pergola nor the park are compliant - though they will be at some time.
