Find a different pocket to study

To the Editor:

I read the story on the problem with Route 9 going west out of Wilmington with great bemusement. Especially the line about needing to “study” the problem.

Here’s your study: the road is washing away because of erosion. This often happens when a road is too close to a river. Does no one see the correlation between this, extremely heavy rain, a lot of traffic and much heavier, oversized loads and the resultant vibrations on a very soggy, very steep embankment?

And here’s your solution: move the road!

I realize this will entail the expense of eminent domaining several properties. This expense will not decrease, however, by waiting until a “study” is completed. Nor will a “study” change things.

All a “study” will do is waste taxpayer money. Does someone have a political debt that needs paid off? Take it out of your pocket... not ours. Thank you for your time and consideration. Peace.

I agree that a study is unnecessary, the evidence speaks for itself. But let them do the study so that they can take credit for discovering that erosion is the culprit. Don't forget, they have to justify their jobs in these economic times. Now, if we had that bypass that was voted down long ago, maybe our current dilemma would have been avoided?
