WILMINGTON - The Southern Vermont Therapeutic Riding Center of Wilmington is proud to announce that Dr. Jerilyn Jacobs is this year’s PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) International Veterinarian of the Year. Earlier this year, Dr. Jacobs was selected as the PATH International region 1 winner, and on November 10, she was announced as the national winner at the 2017 PATH international conference and annual meeting in San Antonio. Dr. Jacobs works as a small animal and equine practitioner at the VT-NH Veterinary Clinic in Dummerston. She has served as a board member for SVTRC for a number of years, providing expert advice and support to our equine assisted activities and therapies program. She works tirelessly as an advocate for our center, and for our equine partners, guaranteeing their optimal care so that they can perform their jobs with comfort and ease. Dr. Jacobs has also helped SVTRC expand their outreach and support base through her professional connections, increasing both monetary and in-kind donations.

The Southern Vermont Therapeutic Riding Center’s mission is to enrich, educate, and expand the lives of individuals with special needs through equine assisted activities & therapies (EAAT). EAAT involves trained volunteers assisting PATH certified instructor, and horse partners to provide a safe, beneficial, and fun experience for our participants. The intent and goal is for the participant to improve coordination, balance, cognitive, emotional, behavioral and/or physical skills, while progressing in equestrian skills. This program includes both mounted and unmounted activities with the horse for individuals age 3 and older. SVTRC offers EAAT to youth and adults with varying special needs including, but not limited to: autism, MS, ADD/ADHD, spinal cord injuries, blindness, developmental delays, apraxia/dyspraxia, cerebral palsy, anxiety, and more. SVTRC is a proud PATH International Member Center. For more information about SVTRC visit our website: www.sovtrc.org.
