SAINT ALBANS- It was their first playdowns appearance ever and the Twin Valley lacrosse team was humbled. But despite the lopsided loss, coach Yolanda D’Alessio said the team accomplished much in their second season and she is already looking forward to next year.

The 12th-seed Wildcats were no match for fifth-seed Bellows Free Academy-Saint Albans. The Bobwhites beat Twin Valley by a score of 16-2 and advance to the division II girls’ lacrosse state quarterfinals. D’Alessio said the team was outmatched on the field, but showed signs of improvement in the second half. “They played the second half well. They passed well and they did a better job moving the ball down the field,” said D’Alessio.

D’Alessio said the Bobwhites’ offense was dominant from the get-go. Two BFA-Saint Albans forwards gave Twin Valley’s defense all they could handle. D’Alessio said whatever strategy the Wildcats tried, the Bobwhites found a way around it. “Taylor Squindo did well at low post, but they kept coming around the net and found the open players with free shots. Our defensive wings weren’t covering the cutter well,” said D’Alessio.

Devon Logan scored the Wildcats’ only goals.

The Wildcats finished the season at 2-10, but several players received conference and statewide recognition.

Logan and Elena Kondracki were selected to the Marble Valley Conference first team, while Desiree Mack and Alora Korb were selected to the second team.

Logan, Kondracki, and Mack were also selected for the upcoming Rising Stars tournament. The tournament will be held June 14 at Rutland High School. Korb, the team’s lone senior, was selected for the Vermont-New Hampshire Senior Showcase to be held at Hanover High School in Hanover, NH on June 21.

“There were some highlights this season. We got two wins this season and we had more beginner players. Two of them were foreign exchange students and they never picked up a stick before. It was great to introduce them all to the sport,” said D’Alessio.
