The majority of participants stay two or more nights, adding more than 2,000 room nights, restaurant visits, and shopping visits to the local economy.
Using the data from the Vermont Department of Tourism’s most recent fact sheet from 2011, these 2,000 room nights equal more than $350,000 of direct summer revenue, 1% of which goes into the town’s economic development fund.
The main feature of the event is the audience it is bringing in– young adventure seekers in the key 18-to 35-year-old demographic. Social media, online reviews, and blogs have picked up stories about the event, creating a buzz about the summer hiking scene in Dover.
The event is also a fundraiser for the Jimmy Fund in Boston, raising over $10,000 since 2012.
