To the Editor,

On behalf of St. Mary’s in the Mountains Episcopal Church and the Brattleboro Music Center, I would like to thank all of the community members who came to our fundraiser this past Saturday night, March 29, to benefit the Deerfield Valley Food Pantry.

The dessert and concert event at St. Mary’s raised over $800 (this is in addition to the money raised by the soup dinner portion of the evening). For those who are hungry and rely on our local food Pantry, $800 translates into over 2,400 meals. We are thrilled with our first year effort, and so pleased with our community’s support of such a worthy cause and event. Thank you.

But it isn’t just about the money, it’s about building community. Seeing a need, putting some heads and hearts together (and about three million emails) on how to address that need, coordinating willing talent, and finding success by putting our energies together from many different groups and towns, The Deerfield Valley Food Pantry, St. Mary’s, Brattleboro Music Center, other local musicians, bakers, the Rotary, The Deerfield Valley News, The Reformer, and the chamber of commerce.

The concert was just wonderful. A special thank you to Pedro Pereira and Karen Horton for pulling together such a terrific group of talented musicians (Melissa Willis, Rob Freeberg, Riley Goodemote, Sue Lemei, Barbara Lipstadt, Robin Matathias, Marietta Formanek, Michelle Liechti, Bob Hancock, and Gennifer Sussman) to perform with them. The audience was entertained with everything from Mozart to Duke Ellington, and Celtic flute to Argentinian tango! And the acoustics in St. Mary’s are warm and up-lifting, if I don’t say so myself. I hope we’ll be having more concerts: Stay tuned!

Again, thank you for all of your support and enthusiasm.

Yours in community partnerships,

Carol Ann Johnson
