To the Editor:
The American Legion needs help with the annual Memorial Day parade in Wilmington. The Nelson E. Pickwell American Legion Post #15 usually provides a color guard to perform the gun salute ceremonies on the bridge and along the rest of the parade route. Their membership is small and due to some health issues there are not enough members who can march in the parade and perform the salutes.
It would be a shame to have the parade without this meaningful ceremony. If you are currently serving in the military, a veteran, or an American Legion member from another post, you could help by participating. Please contact me at (802) 464-5836 (day) or Wendy Pratt at (802) 368-7207 (eve) if you can help.
On another front the plans for the Program at Memorial Hall are in place. In fact we are excited about our keynote speaker, Clayton Clark - Veteran Services Director, Vermont Office of Veterans Affairs. He will talk about his time in the Air Force and honoring our fallen veterans. We hope you will all join us for the program on Monday, May 25, at 10 am.
