Mr. Faas was born on March 14, 1945, in Hartford, CT. He grew up on Long Island, in Islip, NY, after moving from Hartford at age 5. He graduated from West Islip High School in 1963 and from Curry College in Milton, MA, in 1968. He worked at the American Can Company in Connecticut before moving to Wilmington in 1970. He owned and operated the Shroder Haus until 1978, when he moved to Jamaica and began a successful career in finish carpentry, and more recently in caretaking and home repair in the West River Valley area.
Mr. Faas will be remembered by his large family including his adoring wife Carol. He is survived by his dear mother, Marie Faas. His father, Russell Weldon, died in 1945. The father who adopted and rasied him, Charlie Faas, died in 2011. He is survived by four siblings, Peter, John, Tommy, and Mary Shea, and was predeceased by two siblings, Charles Jr. (in 1962) and Harry (in 2006).
Mr. Faas and his wife shared six children from prior marriages, including his children and their spouses, David and Lori Faas, Jamie and Julie Faas; and Tamara McLaughlin; and Carol’s children and their spouses, Becky and Tom Tolbert, Lisa Claussen and Brian Adams, and Wesley and Kelly Ameden. He was the beloved Papa of 12 grandchildren in the family who were his pride and joy.
A passion for all things related to the water led Mr. Faas to lifeguard duty at Jones Beach on Long Island Sound, sailing at the Babylon Yacht Club, and competitive diving in high school. He had many interests including football, especially the Giants; traveling by car, not plane; and antiquing with Carol on their many road trips.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, January 10, at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church at 47 Walnut Street in Brattleboro. Burial will take place in Jamaica Village Cemetery in the springtime.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Grace Cottage Hospital, PO Box 216, Townshend, VT 05353, care of Dr. Robert Backus, his much-loved and longstanding family doctor.
