A storm devastated the Philippines, leaving many homes destroyed. A few days after I found myself in the rectory of our Catholic church asking our priest if his family and friends were okay. He is from one of the Philippine Islands hit the hardest. I told him as we watched CNN that I remember Irene. I was stuck in Seattle watching CNN as the headline was Wilmington, unable to reach my wife and family to assure they were okay. He looked up at me and said it is different, how so I replied, he said that CNN wasn’t showing thousands dead on the side of the roads, hundreds of thousands with no food or water.
Irene left this area in dire straits, I still see the struggles in the faces of those affected. Yet, area business owners have been generous in donating.
The chord that struck me the most was the children and elderly in the Philippines who are struggling to survive. Food, water, and a shelter shouldn’t be deprived. During the holiday season, we sometimes get off track.
We scurry around trying to find the perfect gift, maybe a new game system, or an iPhone for Christmas. We shouldn’t miss the point of Christmas and the needs of fellow people.
White Wolf Consulting will be holding a 100% charity auction on December 15, 2 pm, at North Star Bowl. We will have live entertainment provided by Colby Lambert. Good food and great items from area businesses to be auctioned off. Items such as a ski pass from Mount Snow, fuel from Suburban, gift cards for restaurants, gas cards, gift cards, auto repair services, etc., thousands worth to be auctioned off to highest bidder.
Donations accepted until time of auction. Don’t hesitate to give a gift card from your favorite local business to be auctioned off for this great cause.
The money will go directly to people on the ground in the Philippines. Help them have food and water for Christmas. Donations will continue to be accepted up to the day of the auction.
