At the end of this week, the free ski team flies to Colorado for 12 days of training at Copper Mountain. Accompanied by coaches Robby Sullivan and Joe Vanacore and academic instructor Courtney Perkins, the team will work hard to prepare for an exciting season of competitions while staying on task with their studies. The Revolution Tour this year will begin in Seven Springs, PA, and then move to Boreal, CA, and Sun Valley, ID. Also on the docket for team members is the USSA East Free Tour, which is a stepping stone to the USSA Junior Nations in Park City, UT, in March. On a more local level, many of the riders will be part of the USASA Southern Vermont Series.
And on the international stage, the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, will begin on February 7. Final qualifying events for snowboard and free ski athletes, and the final decision on who will be representing the USA at Sochi, will occur in late January. As of now, free skier Devin Logan, and snowboarder Kelly Clark (both Dover residents and MSA alums) are hoping to make the trip.
