DOVER- The fourth annual Dover Day will be held on Saturday, September 27, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the Dover Town Hall on Dover Common, rain or shine. Dover Day is a celebration of the town and community.

The day starts at 10 am with a pumpkin decorating contest (pumpkins are provided on a first-come, first-served basis) and a doughnut on a string contest.

At 10:30 am the three-legged race will be held, followed by the pumpkin judging and prizes at 11 am. At 11:45 the winner of the bicentennial coin design contest will be announced. And at 12 pm a Southern Vermont wildlife expert will hold a presentation.

At 1 pm is a tug of war contest and at 1:30 pm is an egg and spoon race. The day winds down with a scarecrow parade (bring a costume for the parade).

The day also features free food, a book sale, a pie sale, Andy McLean’s old-fashioned bean hole, live music from 10 am to 12 pm, a free jumpy house and jumpy slide, free popcorn by the Deerfield Valley Rotary, a variety of exhibits by local groups and artisans, and candidates for state representative.The Dover sixth-grade class will offer a variety of pies for purchase from 10 am to 2 pm at the Dover Town Hall.

From 7 to 11pm everyone is welcomed back to the town hall for a square dance with the Bill’s Band. Cost is $5 for those 18 and older. The sixth grade will also sell beverages, hot dogs, popcorn and apple crisp with ice cream at the Dover Day dance which starts at 7 pm. Proceeds benefit the sixth-grade class trip.
