WILMINGTON- Elaine Hazell, 76, a resident of Ray Hill Road, died Monday, November 18, at Pine Heights in Brattleboro. Mrs. Hazell was born in Oceanside, NY, on May 25, 1936, the daughter of William S. and Edna (Royals) Burney. She received her education and graduated from Mepham High School in Bellmore, Long Island.

Mrs. Hazell worked for Allstate Insurance as an accident processor and then for Grumman Aircraft for nearly three years. Upon moving to Vermont, she worked as a cook for many area restaurants and was a school bus driver in Wilmington. Mrs. Hazell loved playing bingo. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, and crocheting.

Mrs. Hazell was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and in her earlier years enjoyed riding motorcycles and water skiing. She enjoyed riding horses as a child and spent every summer coming to Vermont to spend time with her parents. She also loved birds and wildlife in general and loved taking pictures of what she had seen. She cherished times spent with her family and loved her home.

Mrs. Hazell is survived by her husband, Edward T. Hazell, whom she married in Bellmore, NY, on May 23, 1959; her children, Pamela Hazell, of Clearwater, FL, Kathy Lee Bronson and her husband Raymond, of West Dover; Patti-Jean Bolognani and her husband Robert, of Wilmington, William Hazell and his fiance Bonnie Symanski, of Wilmington, Jimmy Hazell and his wife Annette, of Searsburg, and Donna Spiller and her husband Mark, of Wilmington; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and Yvonne Aldrich, whom she considered a daughter.

She was preceded in death by her cousin, whom she considered a brother, Bruce Cousins.

A time of visitation was held Sunday, November 24, at Covey-Allen & Shea Funeral Home. A reception followed at the Wilmington Baptist Church.
