DOVER-Robert J. Barry, 77, a resident of 7 Bear Paw Right, died October 20 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

Mr. Barry was born in Teaneck, NJ, on May 24, 1936, the son of the late Charles Waters and Irene (Rolfe) Barry. He received his early education at St. Anastasia in Teaneck, graduated from St. Cecelia High School in Englewood, NJ, and Fordham University. Mr. Barry was employed by the Mobil Oil Corporation as International Account Manager, retiring after 40 of service. Upon retirement he worked at Stratton Mountain Corporation in group sales and running their concierge program.

While in New Jersey at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Mr. Barry organized the first lector group, was a Eucharistic minister, member of the parish council, ran two benefits for the parish that starred Tony Bennett, was diocesan chairperson of pre-Cana and president of the Holy Name Society. While residing in River Edge, NJ, Mr. Barry was president of the River Edge Swim Club, a board member of the River Edge Library and March of Dimes fundraising chairman.

Upon moving to Vermont, Mr. Barry was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church in Wilmington where he was a member of the parish council. While living in Dover, Mr. Barry was a member of the selectboard for two years and a lister for five years. He was an avid golfer and cherished times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Barry is survived by his wife, the former Carol Ryan, of West Dover, whom he married on April 12, 1958 at Madonna in Fort Lee, NJ; his children, Mark Barry and his companion Jennifer Toothman, of Dumont, NJ, Mary Melnick and her husband Donald, of Pompton Plains, NJ, and Theresa Hornish and her husband Kevin of Glen Rock, NJ; grandchildren, Kevin Barry, Erin Barry, and Ryan Hornish; his two devoted golden retrievers, Maggie and Kelly; sister-in-law, Marilyn Barry, of Paramus, NJ; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Alfred Barry, his great-aunt, Mary Elisabeth Guymer, and his grandmother, Clara Guymer.

A mass of Christian death and burial will be celebrated Tuesday October 29, at 11am at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in River Edge, NJ. Interment will follow in the family lot in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tenafly, NJ.

The family will receive friends at Covey, Allen & Shea Funeral Home, 44 East Main Street, Wilmington, on Sunday, October 27, from 2 to 5 pm and at Beaugard Funeral Home 869 Kinderkamack Road, River Edge, NJ, on Monday, October 28, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.
