Nine teams in two age groups are participating with teams from Wilmington, Whitingham, Dover, Halifax, and Readsboro. Almost 100 kids in third- through sixth-grade are playing, with practices during the week at their own schools and games on weekends (and some weekdays) at Howe Field and Deerfield Valley Elementary School.
This weekend’s matches in the U12 age group (fifth- and sixth-grade) were very close with Dover beating the combined Wilmington-Whitingham Black team 4 to 3, and the other combined Wilmington-Whitingham Red team beating Readsboro 2 to 1. Upcoming games are at 11 am on Saturday at DVES (Dover vs. Wilmington-Whitingham Red) and 6:30 pm on Saturday at TVHS under the lights (Halifax vs Wilmington-Whitingham Black).
In the U10 age group (third- and fourth-graders) the Wilmington Blue team played against Whitingham and Readsboro played against the Wilmington Yellow team at Howe Field. Upcoming U10 games are Wednesday at 5:30 pm, Halifax vs Wilmington Blue, at Howe Field, and also Saturday at 11 am at Howe Field there will be two games, Whitingham vs Wilmington Yellow and Readsboro vs Halifax.
Also this last weekend, the youngest soccer players in the valley, kindergarteners through second-graders started the Saturday morning program at Howe Field. About 50 young players came out to kick up their heels, learn some new skills, and practice some old ones.
