Many valuable lessons can be learned

To the Editor:

As the pastor of the two local Deerfield Valley churches, I want to share with parents of children and teens in our area about a concern and suggestion for your children or grandchildren at this time.

We live in a time and in a culture where interest and knowledge of God, the Bible, and Jesus is at a low point. Attendance in many churches and Sunday schools in the Deerfield Valley has been down for a while. Some churches have stopped Sunday school for lack of children.

There are many reasons for this. The fact is that many of our children and youth are not learning valuable lessons from the Bible that can give them knowledge and wisdom that will equip them to face a world of challenges as they grow up.

The Bible has been taught for centuries as a text book for guidance in living life with purpose. Its teachings are as relevant and applicable today as they have been for times past.

A few generations ago church and Sunday school was the norm for many families in the valley, this gave youth a foundation of good values to make moral and ethical choices for themselves and future families.

The Bible speaks a good truth about raising children, “Teach a child to choose the right path, and when he is older, he will remain upon it.” “Remaining on the right path,” that’s important for all of us, at all ages, to learn.

The Bible gives us answers to questions we have about all areas of our lives, a relationship with God, salvation, and heaven; but it also teaches us about life’s choices in marriage, family, finances, and so much more.

Many local churches have a history of teaching the children of the ways of Christianity, of loving God, loving your neighbor, and of Jesus and his love. Learning from the Bible is not just important but can be fun as we join with local youth and adults.

I encourage the folks of Deerfield Valley to search out and find a church, a Bible study, and a Sunday school to bring your children, youth, and even yourself for adult Sunday school.
