To the Editor:

On Saturday, August 4, Blueberry Festival weekend, we were in our West Dover home when lightning struck and started a fire above our bedroom ceiling. Had we not been there at the time and had the West Dover Fire Department not responded immediately to our 911 call, we would have surely lost our new home, built only a few years ago. We owe much to the brave firefighters and EMS personnel on scene that day. Not only did they perform their duties efficiently and professionally, but they showed great concern for dousing the fire with as little water as possible in order to prevent further damage to our home.

We know that some firefighters were off with their families, enjoying the holiday Saturday afternoon. Many had just finished participating in the Blueberry Festival parade. Regardless, they dropped everything and rushed to do what they do so well, and for that we are forever grateful.
