On behalf of the town of Wilmington, we wish to thank Shaw’s Supermarkets for their generosity in giving our police department, town clerk’s office, and town administrative offices a home, free of charge, since last September. When Tropical Storm Irene flooded our building in the center of town, Shaw’s offered us space immediately and helped us to expedite our move. As the renovating process begins on our town offices, we hope to be back in the center of the town in July.
The support that we’ve received in the form of donations from the public now totals over $120,000 and we are heartened by the kindness shown by so many. This money will go a long way in helping us recover from the flood damage that was not covered by either insurance or by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Just last week, the latest expression of generosity to the town came in the form of a gift of $10,000 from Deerfield Valley Rotary to help repair and improve the town tennis courts. Work there is in progress and is one of the latest visible signs of the town’s recovery.
We know that much remains to be done, but we are grateful to the support of so many people in moving forward.
Sincerely yours,
Tom Consolino, Sue Haughwout, Jim Burke, Diane Chapman, and Meg Streeter
