The grant recipients will utilize the scholarships to attend mountain schools including Carrabasset Valley Academy (Maine), Mount Snow Academy (Vermont), Okemo Mountain School (Vermont), Mount Mansfield Snowboarding Club (Vermont), Ski and Snowboard Club Vail (Colorado) and Stratton Mountain School (Vermont) for the 2011-2012 academic year.
“The reaction from the scholarship recipients has been absolutely incredible and is one of the proudest moments of my life,” said Clark, an Olympic gold medalist. “I have been so blessed throughout my career and it’s an honor to be in a position to help support others pursue their snowboarding dreams.”
The Kelly Clark Foundation awards scholarships to snowboarders looking to pursue excellence in athletics and academics through attendance at mountain schools. Criteria include the level of athletic commitment, financial need, and letter(s) of recommendation; applications are available for download at www.kellyclarkfoundation.org/scholarships.
Clark, a two-time Olympic medalist and three-time Olympian in halfpipe, is widely considered one of the greatest female riders in history. The Dover, VT, native has won every major snowboarding title and event in the history of the sport including the US Open, Olympics, and Winter X Games. Her competition schedule for the 2011-2012 is due to include the US Grand Prix series, Winter Dew Tour, Winter X Games, and US Open.
