To the Editor:

In an overcoming spirit despite the endless obstacles that Irene left us with, the lobster bake was a great success. Mike and Christine Fayette, chef/owners of the Doveberry Inn, did a fantastic job cooking the lobsters/corn/mussels/clams and chicken meals. Carla and Pat Patterson, of Sugar House Builders, supplied us with a huge pasta salad, Christine also made potato salad. Ron Rigo, Nicholas Fayette, Marv Neuman, Barbara Rachels, and Debbie Cox served up the food to a full house. Final numbers are still not all in.

Unfortunately and very understandable, Joe Szarejko and family could not join us as he and all of the police department, road crews, and National Guard are doing an incredible job trying to open roads and keep us all safe.

There was a total of 67 lobster meals plus the chicken dinners were cooked and served, of that number the seven remaining lobsters, mussels, and clams were donated to the Whitingham road crew. Almira and Craig Aekus prepared those late last night and will serve the road crew lunch today. We also receive some wonderful donations from Scott Anyon of Moore Brothers Body and Paint Shop, Jack Steiger, Marv Neuman, and Mike and Christine Fayette. Thank you to everyone who donated and purchased dinners. The food was fantastic, stories abounded about Irene, and we are all thankful to have survived such a hurricane and grateful to Mike and Christine making their way down from Dover to cook for us. Thanks to all.

Bill Cox, DVSC president
