To the Editor:

We have been spending summers in Vermont for many years and try to attend as many local events as we can. Last Saturday the Deerfield Valley Community Cares Fund held a garden party at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Forte in Wilmington. This was no ordinary fundraiser. The day was perfect, and the gardens were spectacular. The host and hostess were very gracious and mingled with everyone there. There was a selection of very nice wines and several varieties of beer and sodas. The food was superb and plentiful. I am sure that nobody needed dinner that night. It was the quality of gathering that you might expect to find in Saratoga or Southampton; yet the atmosphere was very informal and relaxed and small children danced around the lawn to the music. Our houseguests were very much impressed and vowed to make a larger contribution to the fund when they got home.

There were many enjoyable events taking place during the Blueberry Festival, but this one was a gem and we were grateful to have been part of it. The ladies who run that organization are a class act and a credit to this beautiful valley.

Sincerely,

Sandra Bennett
