WILMINGTON- On Tuesday, June 7, Deerfield Valley Elementary School hosted the 16th annual WSSU/Deerfield Valley Fitness Day. Teams were made up of one boy and one girl from grades one through six, and schools from Whitingham, Readsboro, Halifax Stamford Marlboro, Dover, and Wilmington were represented. All the participants worked extremely hard to achieve success. It was a wonderful day of competition and sportsmanship. The event went off without a hitch, and a huge thank-you to all who volunteered their time to make the day a success for the kids of the valley.

Thanks to the following: TVHS students Bryer-lyn Crawford, Sam Bernard, Shannon Lozito, Bit Aekus, and George Molner; Twin Valley Middle School volunteers who served as coaches for each grade level, Tristan Grush, Sam Molner, Cassie Bratton, Owen Schnieder, Wyatt Shippee and Conall Sullivan. Thank you, Taryn Bolognani, for coordinationg our certificates for all of the students. Thanks to Todd Crawford who volunteered his expert grilling skills at the barbecue which followed, and Angie Trudeau, Tracy Hunt, and Jen Nilsen, who helped serve food at the barbeque.

Last, a huge thanks goes out personally to Fran Alfieri, who after 16 years of co-coordinating Fitness Day with me, will step away from his role as he retires from the district after many years of service to our children. Thanks, Fran, for making Fitness Day what it is today.
