Market Area Demographics

History
The Deerfield Valley News was established in 1966 and continues as the paper of record for our market area. During that time, the region has grown to one of the major resort and tourist areas in the Northeast. The Deerfield Valley News has a long-standing commitment to serving the diverse communities which make up our area.

Our Market Area
Western Windham County including the towns of Wardsboro, West Wardsboro, Stratton, Jamaica, Dover, Wilmington, Jacksonville, Whitingham, Readsboro, Halifax, Searsburg, and the West River Valley.

Due to our location in a resort destination area, seasonal population figures for our coverage area often swell to well over 20,000.

Vermont Route 9 is the only highway across southern Vermont. The communities of Bennington and Brattleboro are only 20 miles in either direction.

Route 100 is the major north-south highway and serves as the connecting artery between all of the towns in our area.

Complete Market Coverage
The Deerfield Valley News offers 100% market coverage through its distribution network, subscription sales and specialty publications. Weekly news combined with thorough coverage of special events insures significant readership within our coverage region and among out-of-state second homeowners via postal subscription and the internet.

Four Season Resort Community Southern Vermont is known both nationally and internationally for its outstanding recreational and tourism facilities. The Deerfield Valley News coverage area includes three major ski resorts -- Mount Snow, Haystack and Stratton; the two largest lakes in Vermont -- Somerset and Harriman Reservoirs; portions of the Appalachian, Catamount and Long Trails, and borders the Green Mountain National Forest in several locations.

Tourism accounts for a major portion of retail business throughout the market area of The Deerfield Valley News. Tourists, many of whom own second homes and vacation property in the area, are generally affluent, educated and possess a high percentage of disposable income.
