BENNINGTON- Come enjoy winter fun on Saturday, January 26. The day starts off with the Penguin Plunge for Special Olympics at the Lake Paran boat launch. Check-in begins at 9 am; costume contest at 10:30 am; plunge at 11 am.

Then join in from 11:30 am to 2 pm for the After Plunge Party at the Vermont Arts Exchange. There will be the opportunity to taste over 20 different chilis (sponsored by the NorShaft Lions Club), a cash bar, and live music and ice cream sandwiches (sponsored by the Bennington Coalition for the Homeless). Penguin Plunge awards take place at 12:30 pm.

There will be chair massages, and art activities as well. The ice carving competition at the North Bennington train station starts on Friday, with the bulk of the sculpting happening on Saturday. Prizes will be awarded at 3:30 pm. There will also be a winter marketplace at the train station.

The annual indoor winter carnival at the North Bennington Grade School is a fun spot for children. Also check out the McCullough Library for their special program.

There will be wagon rides from 11:30 am to 4 pm to take people around the village to all the event venues.

The day concludes with the annual Pet Fashion Show, which starts at Whitman’s Feed Store at 4 pm.

There’s plenty of free parking in the Lake Paran Beach parking lot off of Lake Paran Road. A bus will run from the parking lot to the plunge site.
