WILMINGTON- Memorial Hall will present “The Mabel Story” on Saturday, July 21, with doors opening at 7 pm and the show starting at 7:30 pm.

“The Mabel Story” is a multimedia, theatrical reinterpretation of the Russian folktale “Vasilisa the Brave,” featuring live musical storytelling and acrobatic dance theater.

The show has been called a “visual feast,” weaving fantastical video art and shadow play with sets and costumes that harken back to Jim Henson’s “The Dark Crystal.” Maria Pugnetti, playing both narrator and hero, tells Mabel’s story through an all-original musical score that combines freak folk with a touch of Bjork and the classic bedtime story. The dynamic dance trio of Radha Newsom, Jahnavi Newsom, and Cyndal Ellis animates the stage with a contemporary fusion of modern dance, capoeira, acrobatics, and tribal style belly dance. “The Mabel Story” transports audiences of all ages on an other-worldly adventure.

All seats are by donation, and funds raised will go toward Memorial Hall building maintenance.

A trailer of the show can be found at www.firekeeperproductions.com or on YouTube “The Mabel Story.”
