The area pickleball group held the first Wilmington pickleball classic this past Sunday as a benefit for the Old School Enrichment Center, drawing players far and wide to compete in what has been described as “A fun game with a funny name.”
The Deerfield Valley pickleball group was well represented by local competitors, matching up well against outside competition that travelled from as far as Dublin and New Ipswich, NH, North Bennington, and Massachusetts. Some hot pickleball was served up over two three-hour sessions and over 34 players, along with many spectators, had a great time.
Besides living up to the “fun game” part, the event raised funds to benefit OSEC in promoting healthy community activities in the Deerfield Valley. The area pickleball group is grateful to our sponsors for their generous donations and prizes: Anchor Seafood House, Bartleby’s Books, Dot’s of Wilmington, Dunkin’ Donuts, Pickwell’s Barn, Ratu’s Liquor and Marketplace, Scalia’s Woodfired Pizzeria, Shaw’s Supermarket, The Village Roost Cafe, and WW Building Supply.
We are also honored to be able to use such an event to show appreciation to OSEC and the town of Wilmington for their support of this fun and healthy activity.
