PROVIDENCE, RI- Denny McCarthy, 62, died peacefully with his family by his side on December 18. Born and raised in Providence, Mr. McCarthy graduated from La Salle Academy and attended Providence College. Many longtime area residents may remember the years, on and off, that Mr. McCarthy spent in the Deerfield Valley as a “ski bum,” working as both a bartender and a carpenter. Following his time in Wilmington, Mr. McCarthy moved to California, where he spent the last 25 years raising his family in San Jose and working in the precious metals industry.

Mr. McCarthy is survived by his wife Maggie; daughter Alicia, a freshman at San Francisco University; son Jon, a senior at Arch Bishop Mitty High School; sisters Joanne Sutton of Jackson, NH, Carole McCarthy of Alexandria, VA, and Mary Beth McCarthy of Wilmington, VT.

Mr. McCarthy was a very loving and involved father, as well as a dynamic, generous, fair-minded and funny man. He always put others before himself, which endeared him to everyone he met.

For the many East Coast friends and family who were unable to attend the memorial service held in California, a memorial service to celebrate and remember Mr. McCarthy will be held this spring in Wilmington.
