The Deerfield Valley Food Pantry will be the recipients of the proceeds of the Friday, September 13, program. The mission of the Pantry (www.deerfieldvalleyfoodpantry.com) is to see that no one in the area goes needlessly hungry, or lacks the basics for personal care.
Pianist and composer Bakriges is a resident of southern Vermont who has recorded and performed internationally for nearly a quarter century. The Detroit native enjoys playing credits with the likes of Bobby McFerrin, Kenny Burrell, Sandra Wright, Anthony Braxton, and David Darling. His approach to composition and performance has been described by the Times of India as “penetrating and probing…a solid vision of music.”
Joining Bakriges will be drummer Ken Lovelett, bassist Rich Mollin, with a guest appearance by Manchester Center vocalist Patti Smith. Lovelett has worked with Jimmy Cobb, Jack DeJohnette, Max Kaminsky, Danny Gotlieb, Karl Berger, Warren Bernhardt, Joe Beck, Roswell Rudd, Pete and Tony Levin, Ray Drummond, and many others. Lovelett is also the head of Sonart Recording Studio and Gallery, and American Percussion, and has invented many unique drums and percussion instruments. Mollin, who teaches at the State University of New York’s Oneonta campus, has long-standing ties with Spyro Gyra alumnus Jeremy Wall, organist Palmer, and legendary pianist Paul Bley. Mollin also performs with the Catskill Symphony and Glimmerglass Opera in upstate New York.
All shows are 8 to 10 pm at the Memorial Hall and admission is by donation. For more information call (802) 464-2741.
