NORTH ADAMS, MA - Learn more about artist Jason Middlebrook’s interests in site, sustainability, and community on Saturday, October 19, at 2 pm, in MASS MoCA’s Club B-10. Middlebrook will discuss past work, as well as the new works featured in his exhibition “My Landscape,” now on view in MASS MoCA’s first-floor galleries and second-floor mezzanine. Middlebrook explains his ongoing investigations of the effects of time on both a human and geological scale, as well as his interest in the intersection of humans and nature. Meet the artist and continue the discussion at a gallery reception after the lecture.

Middlebrook’s “My Landscape” features a dozen examples from the artist’s recent series of paintings on hardwood planks and his recent forays into painting which illustrate the shift that occurred in his practice following his move from New York City to the more rural environment of the Hudson Valley. The exhibition surveys the artist’s diverse production - from his paintings to site-specific sculpture and drawings - and, along with the planks, features a 28-foot-high suspended Styrofoam fountain, large-scale works on paper, and a wall drawing.

A graduate of the University of California at Santa Cruz, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the Whitney Independent Study Program, Middlebrook has shown extensively in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Europe. “My Landscape” is supported by a grant from the Artists Resource Trust with additional funding provided by the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Hal and Jodi Hess, Robert and Nancy Magoon, and Kent and Vicki Logan.

Tickets are free for members and college students, and $7 for not-yet-members. Tickets are available through the MASS MoCA box office, located on Marshall Street in North Adams, from 11 am until 5 pm (closed Tuesdays). Tickets can also be charged by calling (413) 662-2111. ext. 1. during box office hours or purchased online at
