“Godspell” is a groundbreaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance, and love. Based on the Gospel according to Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score by Schwartz, “Godspell” boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit “Day By Day.” As the cast performs “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All for the Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side,” the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life.
It is a show full of color, sight gags, magic, and some of the most beautiful and moving theatrical music ever written. New England Youth Theatre adds a thrilling layer of clowning, acrobatics, and wonder to this time-honored gem as Stephen Stearns directs the talented senior company, accompanied by a live rock ‘n’ roll pit band. Musical direction of these memorable tunes will be done by Alli Lubin, and choreography will be done by Jen Moyse.
“Godspell” performs Friday, July 6, at 7 pm; Saturday, July 7, at 2 and 7 pm; Sunday, July 8, at 2 pm; Tuesday, July 10 and Saturday, July 14, at 7 pm, and Saturday, July 14, at 2 pm.
