This special program designed around Valentine’s Day was developed and is presented in collaboration with the Bennington Free Library. Museum ABCs is a story hour that takes place once each month in the galleries of the Bennington Museum. Created especially for children ages 3 to 5, their parents and caregivers, each monthly program includes stories about the selected topic, visits to galleries in the Bennington Museum to observe and talk about an actual piece(s) of art, and an art or craft activity. All children must be accompanied by at least one adult.
Celebrating Valentine’s Day makes everyone think of love and the people and things they love. The children will spend their time decorating heart hats to wear when they explore the Church Gallery and Vermont Decorative Arts Gallery looking for hearts and representations of love in the art and objects on view. The love between a mother and her child(ren) will be featured in this month’s stories. Finishing up the program, the group will create a Valentine’s Day craft which incorporates representations of the art and objects that they saw on their visit to the galleries.
Sponsored by The Bank of Bennington, Museum ABCs programs are free. Registration is not required. Watch for details on upcoming monthly programs that include: March 21, Art and the Five Senses; April 25, Meet the Brighams; and May 16, The ABCs of Architecture.
